I’ve been getting into World of Warcraft roleplay, and I just want somewhere to chronicle the backstory I imagine for my two characters. If I sent this to you, rest assured it is entirely optional reading!

Before the fall of Gilneas, Eullena and Kerychtyrr were childhood friends growing up in Gilneas City. Eullena was learning the ways of the harvest witches, and ‘Kerry’ was an apprentice engineer under Tana Lentner. He was a sallow, sickly, unpopular kid regularly bullied by his manlier Gilnean peers, meaning the two would spend a lot of time together in the wilderness. While Eullena was happy with her lot in life, spending her time researching herbalism and hoping to one day cure the kingdom’s worgen curse, Kerry dreamed of going on adventures throughout Azeroth, seeing fantastic sights and risking everything for wealth and glory…except in reality, he had a crippling fear of death that prevented him from even leaving sight of the city walls.

Both characters as humans (though Eullena had both eyes)

These fears only grew more realized when the Forsaken attack on the city jeopardized their lives and those of everyone they knew. While Eullena joined the city defense and did her part fighting for her homeland, Kerry mostly hid and waited in dread for his inevitable demise. He lamented never seizing life while he had it, never even once doing anything exciting…and finally decided to risk it all. Stealing away one night, he reached the Forsaken lines and offered to help them breach the city walls if they’d turn him into an undead, an offer they readily accepted.

Meanwhile, Eullena was having her own worries about the dire state of the kingdom, though her concerns lay in her body being resurrected as an undead if their defenses ever fell. Ultimately, she turns to her research on the worgen curse and injects herself with tainted blood samples, to prevent the forsaken from taking her if she dies.

The next morning, Kerry uses self-engineered explosives to collapse a part of the wall in his home neighborhood, allowing the initial wave of Forsaken to enter the city. This meant his family and neighbors were almost entirely slaughtered in the ensuing fighting, with Eullena one of the few survivors (though she still loses an eye.) Despite this, she does end up surviving the Battle of Gilneas, evacuating to Darnassus, and being inducted into the Cenarion Circle to train as a druid. She struggles more than most with her bestial urges, often finding herself hunting and killing wild animals to slake a new bloodlust always simmering under the surface, which her constant Wildshaping does nothing to help.

Kerry, meanwhile, is resurrected as promised, and overjoyed at having cheated the greatest fear that had plagued his mortal life. Now free to adventure to his heart’s content, he learns and masters warlock magic, rechristens himself ‘Cap’n K,’ and begins exploring the world as a pirate using his self-made ship Victory and Death, which he carries around in a bottle until he pops the cork to properly summon it. His warlock minions are his ‘loyal crew’, which he somehow never notices are the laziest, least reliable, most treacherous of companions who all regularly attempt to get him killed in the line of duty.

The only one with any loyalty is Dr. Crawdad, a humble crustacean who, after unexpectedly healing the captain of his gout, was swiftly promoted from his previous position next to the tartar sauce.

Eullena eventually leaves the druidic order, feeling ostracized at her inability to control her bloodthirsty urges. For a time she traveled the world trying to find other survivors from her past, but found her old family members and neighbors were entirely massacred thanks to being at the impact point of the initial forsaken invasion. In the end she only locates one: Rölf, a former classmate she hadn’t known particularly well, who now had entirely succumbed to the worgen curse. Unwilling to lose the last remaining tie to her old life, she began the long slow process of “taming” him, relying on her understanding of the bloodlust and her experience with the animal mind. By the end, he was still more of a big bipedal ‘dog’ than a man, but he was now placid enough to become her traveling companion, and the pair roam Azeroth as nomadic hunters, sleeping in tents and selling skins/herbs to make ends meet.

Eullena and Rölf (For RP purposes, Rölf’s model will have this effect applied at all times)

Cap’n K, meanwhile, has learned that Eullena survived the battle and is now looking for her. He’s convinced himself that she’ll understand the reasons he betrayed their kingdom, and rationalizes that the many dashing adventures he’s undergone since then were worth what it took for him to get there. Whether he really believes his bluster or not, he can’t help signing up for any scheme that might give him a chance to finally reunite with her again.

Plot hooks for Eullena: Wilderness expedition, Hunting/Monster slaying, Herbalism, Infiltration/Investigation. Her survivalist self-sufficient nature suits her for even criminal or off-the-grid storylines.

Plot hooks for Cap’n K: Smuggling, Engineering, Naval/Aerial transportation, anything that strikes him as an ‘adventure’. His contradictory self-image as a rogue and a gentleman lets him rationalize his participation in storylines of any nature, though his quixotic conceit does work best when there’s a lighthearted or comedy-supporting tone to the RP.
